This afternoon, the official account of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) on the social network X announced in a press release that Juan Ramรณn de la Fuente had an important phone call with the current U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, in which both diplomats discussed different issues that are currently of vital importance for the United States and Mexico.
As for the duration of the call, it is not detailed; however, it is implied that both parties agreed to the creation of a binational working team, which in the coming days will meet in Washington in order to deepen the issues of security, migration and trade, quite critical in the current context.
Marco Rubio deepens diplomatic relations with Mexico
It should be noted that in recent months both the Trump administration and the cabinet of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum have been involved in a series of meetings, which have resulted in the establishment of several working groups aimed at focusing their efforts on several key points for both nations.
It was learned that throughout the phone call between both representatives of these two geographically united nations, both parties took the opportunity to ratify their commitment to economic security and thus support the mutual benefit of the peoples that make up both the United States and Mexico.
During the call, both parties indicated that the issues of national security, migration and trade would become a central point in the next roundtable to be held in the coming days in Washington, prioritizing the security and stability of the southern border, which has been the most affected.
State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce, for her part, wanted to elaborate on the issue, stating that senior officials from both Mexico and the U.S. agreed to carry out joint actions focused on dismantling criminal and terrorist organizations accused of destabilizing the regions near the southern border.
Arms trafficking to Mexico
On this particular point, the Mexican government has been very emphatic in expressing that the flow of weapons from the United States is a central issue in the fight against criminal organizations living in Mexican territory, which have benefited from this point in recent years.
It is worth noting that recently the Mexican government, in its latest lawsuits, has lost its main battles in US courts, a situation that has led the cabinet of Mexican President Sheinbaum to rethink its political and legal strategy against gun companies and known traffickers in the US territory.
Mexico’s work at the Southern Border
There is no denying that, since the Mexican government announced that it would work closely with the Trump administration to address the crisis generated by groups classified as terrorists, significant progress has begun to be made, especially in the area of seizures of synthetic drugs derived from fentanyl, which entered mainly through the southern border.
Another extremely critical point for the Trump administration was the immigration policies, which since his arrival began to be progressively hardened to a point where the Mexican government began to take a much more active role, preventing the circulation of migrants seeking to enter the U.S. territory illegally through the aforementioned border with Mexico.
